AI Policy

 Stream AI policy

Yes, we use artificial intelligence.

You have now found our AI disclosure policy, so the secret is out. We could pretend this is a shocking revelation, but that would require pretending we live in 1997. We don’t.

The Missouri Stream provides artificial intelligence tools to its writers and other members of our team. Some of those tools are optional. They can be used for things such as suggesting headlines, writing summaries, organizing information, reviewing a story for clarity, identifying places where a story could be stronger, suggesting follow-up questions or reporting ideas, proofreading and other editorial work.

Some routine material may also be formatted or drafted from official data before being reviewed by a writer. AI may be used to help produce social media posts, graphics, videos, website elements and other parts of the media you see from The Missouri Stream.

We also reserve the right to use AI wherever it helps us do our jobs better. We’re building a modern news and media company. That means we’re going to use modern tools. Sometimes that will include AI.

When an image or illustration is generated by AI, we will clearly label it as such. We do not want readers mistaking an artificial image for a photograph of something that actually happened.

The basic rule is simple. AI is a tool. It is not a journalist, an editor or a substitute for human judgment. Writers remain responsible for the work they publish, and editorial decisions remain human decisions.

We use AI carefully, transparently and with some common sense. We review its work. We question it. We correct it when it is wrong. Sometimes we tell it that its first attempt was terrible and make it try again. It has survived.

We also aren’t going to pretend that using AI is somehow remarkable. There is a decent chance some form of artificial intelligence helped you get from our homepage to this sentence. Congratulations. You have survived the encounter.

If you are looking for a publication that has never used artificial intelligence anywhere in its operation, The Missouri Stream probably isn’t going to be that publication.

We are perfectly comfortable saying so.

Look. AI.

See? Nobody cares.

Now, back to the news.
